I'm having the same problem with my windows 7 gateway. It won't let me open anything. Only the control panel but it won't let me use recovery. Also I don't have the disk that my gateway was suppose to come with. If you know how to help please email me pebblezz130@gmail.com

I agree with Bob on time. I know this is an old article but I figured I put my two cents in. I work in a computer repair shop, we do full hardware diagnostics on every computer, this usually takes a half a business day at least. Then for virus removal you are talking another full business day usually and then finally to finish a cleaning up the OS takes another half day. So you are looking at two days MINIMUM for a quality virus removal. One that's comprehensive and not rushed. That two day minimum is if it's a straight forward virus removal (which 90% of virus removals are), but if it's a nasty infection I usually spend an extra day trying to clean it up and if that can't be done one more day to backup the data, re-install the OS and restore the data. So to say 2 days or less is the only acceptable is saying one of these steps should be skipped, which is not a professional way to do it. I also agree with paying a little more for good service, you truly do get what you pay for.

I think what's happening here is that your display driver can't switch to 320 x 240 (or is it 200?), and thus you get the crud at the top of the screen. My current comp does the same thing in direct draw mode... The reason the menus still work is because the game is set at 640x480 for those, then switches (or in this case, TRIES to switch) to 320 from the loading screen onward.

Basic maintenance is the first thing one should do to get their PC running fast. Unfortunately, many folks don't run a defrag or scandisk or cleanup the pc junk that accumulates.

Cleaning the registry is a must.
