A Linux server is lauded as one of the most efficient servers out there. Although installing one requires some technical knowledge, it’s worth it. The following are steps in setting up a Linux VPS platform for a game. Before anything else, you must first use the command “gunzip goserver.tar.gz” in order to restore the goserver package. After this has been done correctly, the server should be able to create an automatic goserevr directory with all the required files in it. By entering the command “tar xvf goserver.tar”, you can create said directory. Once the goserver directory has been created, it will have five sub directories. These directories are installation, monitor, globalops, lib, and bin.
The next step will be to use the sub directory known as the bin which will have a server executable file known as the goserver.elf and also a server profile known as the server.prf.
The subdirectory lib/Linux release will contain three dynamic libraries which will be used later. You can run the goserver with a resource file contained in the globalops subdirectory. The installation sub directory will be a documentation which will guide the process of installation of the set up. The monitor sub directory will have some remote monitors which can be able to run under Linux or windows platforms.
The executable file should be moved to the server profile right from the bin/Linux. The dynamic libraries should be moved to the system path. Then the process of setting up the Linux should be almost done by now as it will be required to bind the Linux server to a specific ip address. After that all you need to do is to configure the game onto your Linux VPS.
