after loading the my computer doesn’t proceed to the desktop menu to access documents and programs, instead it gives a with this message:
“a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage”
it continues to say:
“UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME”
and at the end it gives this technical info:
stop:oxooooooED(ox83F86C98, 0×0000000, 0X00000000)
What can I do to fix my PC? Is it dead and nothing can be done about it?
Please advise, your answer will be much appreciated. Thanx

  1. Om says:

    Try the following:
1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.When the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type “fixboot” (without the quotes), and then press ENTER.
    6. At the prompt, type “Y” (no quotes), then press ENTER.
    7. At the prompt, type “exit” (no quotes), then press ENTER. The computer will now (hopefully) boot into Windows.
If this fails, then perform steps 1-4 as above, but in step 5, type “chkdsk /r” (no quotes) instead of “fixboot”. Then at the command prompt, type “exit” and press ENTER.
    Good luck.
